Seeking safety for adolescents
Can Seeking Safety be used with adolescents? Yes. It has been used for many years by many different programs, very successfully, using the existing Seeking Safety book.
We also have adolescent-specific options below.

Evidence? There is a randomized controlled trial with positive findings on Seeking Safety with adolescents. There are also pilot studies with adolescents (see the evidence page).

Training
- Anyone can join one of our Open Webinars, including the adolescent toolkit training!
- You can also have a training for your staff only. Three specific training options on Seeking Safety for adolescents; see the Training Topics of our website for a complete description of each.
- Seeking Safety for Adolescents training. This is identical to the regular Seeking Safety training but also has elements specific to the developmental needs of adolescents. We cover ways to make Seeking Safety engaging for this age group (e.g., games and exercises); how to handle communication with parents, caregivers, and teachers; and language and examples relevant to adolescents. See the 1 day outline and objectives; it can also be done as a shorter training.
- Seeking Safety Adolescent Toolkit training. This is for providers who have already attended a Seeking Safety training and/or have experience conducting the model. We focus on engaging adolescents to participate in Seeking Safety using the new Seeking Safety Adolescent Toolkit (2023). See the 1 day outline and objectives; it can also be done as a shorter training or as a half day add-on to a regular Seeking Safety training.
- Theme-based consultations (1 hour via Zoom or phone), with five adolescent-specific topics.
More options relevant to adolescents:
- Lisa's newest book, Finding Your Best Self, can be used with adolescents, families, peers, and as self-help (it is an entirely new model with new material).
- Our monthly 1 day Seeking Safety webinar training, which is conducted by Summer Krause; she can address adolescent-related questions there as well.
